Day 76: It all Started with a Tweet...

I've never been able to internet date.  I have friends that swear by it (even the friend I'm about to mention), but it's never been my bag.  There's such an element of mystery with it.  How do you know who you're really talking to?  I mean, that well-dressed, young-at-heart, unpredictable, family man...could very well have his clothes laid out for him by his mother, be old as hell, and storing an ice pick under the pillow of the twin bunkbed he calls home in his parents' basement.  His profile picture probably isn't all that accurate either.  Just sayin'

So, after hearing this, you may find it mildly ironic that I met one of my bestest buddies in Minnesota in that very place -- the internet.

In my defense, I was exploring the art of using a Twitter account to enhance my reporting capabilities.  I'm not a Twitter-er.  I tried.  Several times actually.  I just can't get into it.  But I refuse to get rid of it either.  Ha.  Maybe I'll pick up on it at some point.  Maybe.

Well, on one of the few days I actually decided to take the Twitter Bull by the horns (so to speak), and spread my journalistic love to community members via some awesome (or not-so-awesome) tweets -- I came across Danielle.  Perhaps I should rephrase.  I came across Daneille, her 9,000 followers, and 20 million tweets.  Seriously. That girl is insane.  She could teach a college course on social networking.  And I'd probably go.  (seriously).

In my defense, Danielle wasn't a total stranger.  This little social butterfly knows half the state of Minnesota, probably the entire state of Missouri, and portions of every other neighboring state in between.  That includes -- several of my friends in town.  So, it's not like she was some crazy, psycho, serial killing, stalker fan (wait...do I have fans? Ha.).  Well, anyway...something just clicked.  We're a lot alike.  We love to laugh, love to have a good time, love taking pictures, love being the center of attention, and we're both moderately obsessed with facebook.  Perfect.  I pretty much look at her as the skinnier, blonder, far-more-attractive, fashion forward, fearless version of myself (ok, so maybe we're not as alike as I thought ;) ha).  And I'm thankful to have her in my life.

She is kind, sweet, considerate and caring.  She has a HUGE heart (which is funny, because she's so tiny - I really have no idea where it fits).  She reached out to me when I was a perfect stranger.  She's listened to me cry, laughed at my jokes (that's saying something), and has been there for me whenever I've needed her.  And I know I'm not the only one.  She's involved in so many different causes, and gives back to so many groups and people, I have no idea how she ever finds time for herself.  She's stronger than anyone I know.  She speaks her mind, says it like it is, stands up for the little guy, and stands her ground.  She's fearless...in a totally beautiful way.  And she is beautiful.  She has the greatest hair of anyone I know (second to maybe her twin), and she could make a potato sack look good.  Ha. She'd have that thing accessorized to the 9s, and I guarantee you by Monday morning, half the stores this side of the Mississippi would sell it.  Oh...and she's hilariously funny....and has introduced me to so many of her awesome friends, who are easily just as hilariously funny...and a few hours at her house will have you laughing so hard, you would have wished you wore Depends over (for the record, I haven't done that).

And I love how she gets me out on the town...like last night...for St. Patty's Day in St. Paul, when I had to be at work at 9am the next day.  She's trouble with a capital T...ha...but so am I, so it's perfect.  And St. Patty's Day was pretty flippin' sweet.

Danielle's world is a big, beautiful world, and she welcomes everyone she meets into it.   Including some random girl she met on Twitter.

And I'm thankful for that.
