I'm so far behind. That seems to be the theme here...I just feel so good when I finally catch up, that I give myself the day off...or the next three days off...potato...poh-tah-toe.
Saturday's is easy...but boring.
I'm thankful the show went off without a hitch (or with nothing but a few minor, inconsequential, couldn't-pick-up-on-it from home hiccups).
TV stations see a lot of turnover. Simply put, you get paid more if you move on...so, unless you're from the area (and most people aren't), you sign your contract, put in your time, get your experience, and move). No place is that more true than in production. Some people go to school for it, some people don't. Typically those that don't, don't stay long. Which leaves us with a crew that's almost completely brand-spanking new.
We have a new camera guy, new(ish) people on graphics...and leading them all as the director, is someone who's new to the director seat. It's hard enough being a new director with a veteran crew...but a new director with a newbie crew? Well, let's just say that Brad's braver than I am.
Not to mention - it's the weekend, and let's be honest...that's a totally different beast. Fewer people to do the same amount of work. The pressure's palpable in that director's chair...and the risk of everything going up in flames is legitimate.
Saturday was the first day without the training wheels. The first day of everyone being on their own. It was sink or swim time babycakes...with my face on the screen.
And I'm pleased to report...we swam. Maybe not as far as we're going to some day...but we swam. We survived. We lived to tell our story (or several of them)...and that ever-so-intimidating first show is under our belts...and like Nemo said...we'll "just keep swimming"...til it's perfect ;)
And I'm thankful for that.
